Changes to timetable commencing 16 May 2011

Please check the new timetable on the web. It should resolve the issues of capacity very well and also result in a shorter journey for passengers in North Swords at the peak time.

Proposed changes to route

We've had a lot of feedback on our new route. There's been a big welcome for the extended catchment and hours. But there's been very real concerns expressed about capacity and level of service at the peak times. We've now put together a proposed, revised timetable to deal with these issues, by providing more direct services and more targeted services at those times. Check out details on the Swords Express Facebook page.

Swords Express Swords Express Sunday services to be suspended

Swords Express will suspend its Sunday service after 13 September 2009. There will no further service on Sundays or bank holidays until further notice. However, we hope to introduce a revamped Sunday service in the future.

The service on 13 September will be the last Sunday service

We have taken this decision to suspend the Sunday service at this point for two reasons.

Firstly, we do not know whether the authorities will allow us to continue the Swords Express service and develop it. This means that we are reluctant to invest further money into the service until we know where we stand.

Secondly, the number of customers using it is continuing to decline because of the economic downturn. We are confident that this is only a cyclical change, and that the numbers will eventually bounce back, but the route overall is no longer able to support this extra cost.

We are anxious to introduce a new, wider Sunday service, as part of an improved overall Swords Express, which serves North and West Swords, including Applewood, Forest Road and Holywell. We also want to extend our service into the evenings to cater for events at the O2/Point Depot in Dublin’s Docklands. As well as providing a better service for the people of Swords, these improvements will help make the Sunday service profitable. However, we are waiting on the Department of Transport to grant a licence to operate the extended route and extended times, but there has been no progress on this. It is over 18 months since we made our application.

We are very grateful to our passengers for their custom on Sundays over the last two years. We regret not being able to serve them further, especially at a time when train services have been curtailed in North Dublin. We hope to resume Sunday services as soon as possible.
