Fares and Tickets
November 15th, 2007
The adult fare is €4
There is a ten-journey ticket available for €35 (€3.50/journey). Ticket is valid for one month.
Off peak (08.45-15.59, after 19.00 and all weekend) fare is €3,
The fare for under 16’s is € 2.
Swords Express is fully seated, and the journey time is 30-35 minutes.
We will be offering a yearly commuter ticket soon. Please email us at feedback@swordsexpress.com if a season ticket is of interest to you. (There are big advantages in terms of convenience and price. What’s more, you can get a tax allowance on the ticket which could reduce the cost by up to 40 percent.)

Hi,
Can you forward me info on the season ticket.

I am studant and i was just wondering will there be a student ticket which could be validated on your bus because €6 round trip seems a bit dear for me since i am a student.

prices are ok if you can deliever your promise and offer a sppedy trip to/from city..
November 17th, 2007 at 12:21 am
Re student fares, we will have to think about that. Maybe we will do a deal as regards monthly commuter tickets. The problem with discount schemes is all the administration they involve. Let us know (at feedback@swordsexpress.com) exactly what you have in mind.

wayne2107: re delivering on the promise, we will do our best. No doubt there will be some early teething problems. We really have no idea what the initial demand will be.
November 17th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Wish you the best of luck anyway lads, such a usefull service this will be.
November 18th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Will your yearly tickets be integrated with Dublin Bus and Irish Rail yearly tickets.
The reason i ask is because i have an annual bus and rail ticket, which allows me to get any bus or train in the dublin area. This is extremely useful and if i had to buy a seperate ticket just to get the Swords Express bus it would not in the least be economical dont you think.
November 18th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Have you any plans to start the service from JCs / Library on the Rathbeale road?
November 18th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Will u be extending beyond the Pavillions?? Otherwise, its too far for me to walk to the shopping centre to catch your bus. I live in Applewood.
November 18th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
The service should start from Swords Manor so that the residential areas such as Applewood, Glen Ellen, Castleview and other areas will be serviced. Otherwise the office commuters from these areas will have to use Dublin Bus to reach to Pailions and then catch this bus. Which may be an expensive to individuals. Please do consider this option.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
I would definitely use this service if it started at Swords Manor. I live in Bunbury Gate, near Applewood and unless there was a combined Dublin Bus/Swords Express ticket, I wouldn’t be able to justify the cost of catching a Dublin Bus down to the Pavilions to catch the Swords Express.
Best of luck with the service, it is badly needed and much appreciated.
November 20th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
Will there be a student ticket? €6.00 a day each is too much to pay even if it is a faster service. Plus Pavillions is too far away to walk to on a wet day.
November 20th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
Another important route extension would be a service to Swords Business Park or Campus in the north of Swords.

“Im too fat to walk 5 mins to the terminal, will u consider making a stop outside my house”
November 21st, 2007 at 10:41 am
Hi,
I am a student adn am interested in using the service but I have concerns regarding the price. If students could simply show valid college i.d to driver and benefit from reduction similar to the U16 fee. This would be beneficial. Considering anyone who avails of Dublin Bus can use an all day valid pass on any number of buses for as little as 3euro66.

This sounds like a great idea. I live in Cian Lea, and I am wondering if the route goes past my housing estate.
Thanks, Dermot F.

u should do month tickets,a year is a long time
November 29th, 2007 at 10:38 am
I heard the bus gets full very quick. People who have to go to work for a living should have preference. Giving student discounts will only fill the bus with students which only frustrates the people who depend on getting to the city and cant because the bus is full.
Students can pay the premium rate if they wish to use it. Otherwise it will become a ’student bus’ service.
November 29th, 2007 at 10:40 am
I live in Applewood and cant avail of your service because there is no parking in Swords village!
There is a huge population of potential customers in the Applewood area that you are ignoring.

Like a lot of people I have a yearly bus and dart ticket given to me by my employer. It would be good to be able to use the same ticket on your bus and then get a connecting bus from O’Connell Street to Leeson Street. Also I am living in Castleview and because there is no park and ride facilities by the Pavillions it is not viable for me to use your service. If this changes I would use your bus service.
December 11th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
why aren’t the times of the buses showing on the website anymore?
December 14th, 2007 at 4:53 pm
How do we get the timetable…I can’t find it anywhere
December 14th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
If the route is expanded to take in all these extra stops all you people are requesting then it wont be an “express” bus, will it. it would take just as long as the 41x to get to town then
December 15th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
As long as the bus did other estates but didn’t travel the length of swords main street it would still be fast.
In my experience that is where the large delay usually is.
The bulk of residents do not live with 5 min walk of the main steet!

Holywell housing estate is served by 3 Portmarnock-City morning buses and 3 City-Portmarnock evening buses (route 142). Going through Airside to enter M1 instead of Cloghran (even on a reduced basis) would benefit both Swords Express and Holywell.
January 10th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
I think a student rate or ticket would entice a lot of students to use the service as €3 each way is quite dear compared with about €1.65 on Dublin bus when you use a student ticket.
Also an annual ticket is not useful for students for obvious reasons.
January 14th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Where is your timetable. I’ve been looking for it for days now? Cant you just put a link to it nice and clear somewhere at the top of the page.
Also, why do the buses always just go straight past the people standing at the IFSC in the evenings?
January 14th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Where is the timetable, I’ve spent 15 minutes looking for it? It should really be the first thing that the site displays.

Hi,
Just wondering have you any plans to start a bus from lusk? You can’t get into the train station in lusk past 7.30 so a lot of people from Rush and Lusk would love a bus service in the city that goes through the port tunnel.

I just heard that you may be thinking of increasing the fare of €3. Is it true? Also i’m very happy with the service and even with Robbie’s music selection.
Thanks

Re: Student Tickets.
Since the 41X is now banned from using the Port Tunnel, i have to really consider using your service but there is one wee problem the price €2 ech way and thats only to the Quays and i need to go to Leeson St. So my journey into town would be quite expensive. What I hope you could put in place is that say a student ticket of €10 for 5 days(which works out at about €1.60 a day + €2 admin charge) along with a photo i.d. That way i could be in town in 35mins or less with no stress and my overall costs would be less! I hope you consider it becuase you can certainly garantee my custom on your service if it is put in place.
Thanks
Rich

I am delighted with the speedy journey to and from the city and also the collection service at the pavillion. Before i used to drive an park at swords manor to guarntee a seat on the 41x bus.
In regards to monthly tickets:
Unfortunetly my company is not involved in the taxsaver scheme, so i can not benefit from the affordable discounted tickets. Will there be a saver ticket like Dublin bus’s 5day, 7day or monthly pass that I can avail of in the near future. 120 euro is a alot to pay for montly travel, maybe it could be joined up to other services like the DART. I commute to Ballsbridge so this is also another expense. Mainly it is the inconvience of having to have the correct change available. So ticket form would be great please.
Thanks,
Julie

Hi
I was wondering would you consider putting on an earlier bus, say leaving at 6.20am rather than 6.34 as I and am sure others have to be in work for 7am. I use the bus in the evening but will have to use dublin bus going forward if there is no earlier bus.
Regards
Trevor

I was shocked to see a new fare announcement on the bus window today. The new fare from later in April is a whopping €4. This represents a 33% increase in the current fare and is in my opinion not practical.
Can you explain the thinking behind such a dramatic increase?
Thanks
Alan
April 7th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Ive just heard the fare is going up to €4 and was wondering the reason why? Its a litte steep……..
April 8th, 2008 at 9:05 am
Can you confirm when the fare is going to increase to €4. I don’t see it mentioned on the web site but noticed it on the door of bus.
Also ANY update on the Applewood/Swords Manor extension?
April 8th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
I noticed your sign on the bus door today advising of the increase in standard fare to €4.00 i.e. a 33% increase in less than 6 months of operation…nice one!
No explanation on the website, no justification, no extra buses at peak times, no service committment - nothing except an ‘offer’ of a ten journey ticket for €35.
With the early buses on the 43 route making the jouney to the city in c40mins it’s so long and thanks for the memories….
April 8th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I rang Swords Express this morning and the reason I was given for the price increase was to cover costs and that they are not getting the custom during the day. I think this is slightly unfair. A better suggestion would be to put on less busses during the day instead of punishing your loyal customers for it! I also will no longer be using the Swords Express. It works out at an extra €40 a month!!!
April 8th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
have just heard that the fare is to increase to €4. That is 100% increase on other bus services travelling to the city centre. This is overly expensive for a bus journey, how can you expect to charge commuters 40 per week for travelling to and from work!!!
I know people will pay the fare, but it is surely a disgrace that you can increase your fares by 50% within less than one year of operation.
Tis back to the 41x for me!
April 17th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Is there a time limitation on how long the 10 journey tickets are valid for?
April 17th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Ticket is valid for one month.
April 21st, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I had thought that the 3 euro single fare was rather expensive but I was glad to pay it as it meant a quicker commute to college but then with the increase to 4 euro I would have considered going back to the train or oul dublin bus as 8 a day just for transport is out of the reach of many students. However the 2 euro student rate is brilliant, i dont know myself!!!! i can have a lie in in the morning and get a bus 45 mins before my lecs start, i get at least an extra hour in bed in the mornings which is great cos it means i can stay up later, you know studying and that sort of thing, not going out or anything!!!!!!!!!!!
great service!!!!!!:P
April 30th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Hi,
I see all your reasons for increasing your prices..but by a whole euro I find absolutely incredible and frankly disgusting. This service is effectively elitest..students,elderly, unemployed etc will not be able to afford this service, only well paid professionals. I earn a decent wage but it still makes me panic when I think of the amount of money this is going to cost me.
I am sure you have plenty of angry reactions such as this but felt the need to give my own feedback. I will be catching the regular bus service and I hope other people do as well. How you can effectively charge people 8 euro a day is shocking.

Is it ture there is a price increase from August 2008-if so by how much?
June 25th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
No, there is no increase in cash fares in August.
We also continue to carry social welfare pass holders for free.
