2 euros at weekends
May 28th, 2008
The fare on our weekend (and bank holiday) services is now 2 euros. There is an advertisement in this week’s Swords Gazette. We want to attract more weekend custom for our service. Offer runs until 22 July, but we would love to extend this offer if it is attractive.

Hi,
Why not operate a bus a bit later on a Saturday. Like one at 8 and one at 9? A lot of people head out into town for a night out and this would be quite popular I’d imagine. 7:15pm is a little early to be going out…you could scrap that service if there are not enough buses. Just an idea.

I’d second the suggestion for one at 9 or just before. I’d imagine a lot of workers start at 9:30 or 10AM on a Saturday. My missus starts at 10 so it’s a lovely drive for me to drop her off every Sat as she like to be in work by 9:45AM.
If you had one around 9ish I’d get a much better lie on, on a Saturday

Otherwise it’s a great initiative to put the prices down to €2 for a month or on Saturdays.

That should have read

This is a great initiative by Swords Express. €2 is great value. I would though like to add my agreement with the earlier message which said a later bus would be great on a Saturday as 19.15 is very early to be going to town. A 20.15 bus would be very convenient for people.
I know there is very little Swords Express can do about this but there a few reasons why I think why people may choose not to use the Swords Express at weekend. The Port Tunnel is only €3 each way at the weekend and also if one lives in Ridgewood for example and has shopping it is a relatively long walk up to there from Airside or the Village if one has lots o heavy bags. The logical solution used to be to leave one’s car in Airside but now Airside has gotten a lot stricter on parking there and one’s car could be clamped. This despite the fact that the car park is huge and usually not even half full. Even on the busiest days of the year. Could Swords Express rent lease spaces there for customers for park and ride? Possibly Airside could advertise on your tickets or buses which would mean free advertising for them and parking for your customers. Swords Express bus really should carry advertisements. They do no harm and would make money for the company. Any reason why they don’t?

My suggestion above was not 0800 or 0900, it was 2000 and 2100, just to clarify…….

Good stuff.

In a previous life I worked for a company in the UK who suggested the idea of ‘leasing’ some spaces of a nearby retail park to use as a overflow work car park. The retail park claimed that the spaces are worth £25k a year - that’s per space.
While you’re absolutely right that Airside has the capacity, I doubt they’d like Swords Express customers use the spaces in exchange for some advertising. In a sane world they would of course, but in my experience retailers don’t live in a sane world.
Good stuff about the reduced fare on weekends, best of luck with it. I’ve said it before on these blogs, but it’s really, really great to see a company communicating with its customers like this.

Hi, Can someone look into getting an extra stop on the quays - poss outside AIG or the hotel. At present we have to get off at either the ‘Boat (unsure of the name) or at jurys. Its not really fair on people who work in between and some of the drivers are very nice and let you off and then there are others who are rude about it and won’t. Please, please think about it.

We aren’t competing with Dublin Bus. We are offering a completely different service.
