Update on capacity

March 18th, 2008

We now have plenty of capacity on all our evening services. On the odd occasion when certain buses fill up (usually because there has been a traffic delay) we have an extra bus a few minutes behind.

Update: there was a big crowd on the 7.30 this morning. However, there was space on the 7.45 and later services.

Speaking of capacity. Do you have capacity for folding bikes on Swords Express?

Do you think we will get this service in the future around Aplewood or Sword Manor? Is a bit far for us to get any of the stops.thank u!

I came on here to ask that exact question! My husband is going to start a new job in Ballsbridge soon and he has been ravin about this service. Would he be able to bring a fold up bicycle on board? Depending on the bicycle they range in size from about 26-37″ folded, and would be in a carry case.
Thanks very much for your time. You run a brilliant service!

Hi David, sorry for taking a bit to reply. Answer is that it really depends on the time of day and whether you can get the bike on the bus. We can’t really open up the luggage compartments because the driver has to leave the seat, and it also takes a while.

SE, can you explain to me why the 7.30 bus, left at 7.40 this morning which resulted in the big crowd on the bus this morning?

Having said that fair play to the driver he got us in on time!! So all wasnt lost.

I am writing in relation to the 7:30 from Swords which was late again today (7:40).Does this driver think the bus leaves at the old 7:37 time by any chance?Yesterday morning the driver actually didnt leave until after 7:45 the bus was totally packed with passengers standing the whole way down the aisle which was so dangerous. I would hate to see what is usually a quality service deteriorate.
On a positive note, one of the Drivers called Robbie is fantasic and a real asset to Swords Express always so pleasant and gets the bus moving on time every time.

I note your reply re folding bikes. The bike would fit onto the bus but would take up a spare seat on most of the buses where the legroom is reasonably tight. Typically I use the bus during rush hour but the bus will not always be full. I don’t see your suggestion as being workable as I could get on the bus at the first stop with plenty of free space yet the if the bus fills up by the last loading stop I would not want to be depriving somebody of a seat due a bike.

This scenario need not just apply to bikes but to buggies and prams which I feel is a bit of a problem for Swords Express if it is to fully serve the community and broaden its user base.

What about a procedure whereby you can request to load something in the luggage compartment but only at the first stop. Would this make it easier on the driver?

You could also get the driver to show the customer how to open and close the luggage compartment so that for future requests the driver need not leave his/her seat.

Another option which I have seen work on the continent is where scheduled bus services allow passengers to load and unload the luggage compartment without the drivers assistance. Basically the luggage compartment is left unlocked. You could state that anything placed in the luggage compartment is not the responsibility of Swords Express.

    Admin,

I would be grateful if you could tell me if you stop at all dublin bus stops as I work along the Swords Express route but a significant distance from your stop outside the laughter lounge. Thanks!

Just want to say that I want to say that I support fully what Swords Express are doing regarding the competition thing with Dublin Bus.

For years they effecively abandoned Swords putting all the money to the 46A route etc and leaving us with a truely terrible service. It took your company to embarrass them into doing their job correctly.

Dont stop cause they are running a couple of buses through the tunnel, I`d rather have the comfort of your coach any day.

    Thanks for all your efforts.

    Performance
It is very disappointing to see the 07.50 being so regularly late. Today it did not leave the Pavilions until 07.57 and was full then at Pennys because all the people for the 8.00 were waiting. How miserable for the people waiting at all the other stops, for the 07.50 which was yet again late.
