Just like to say it’s great to see a company react so quickly and to take their customers needs into consideration. I saw a bus parked outside St Colmcilles GAA Club. Has the application for Applewood being granted. Is so, I’m delighted and will definitely be using the service more.

    Great service.

i have seen a couple of people ask for an up-date on the Applewood route. Is there any, either good or bad?!!
It looks like there may be some competition for Swords Express on the way.

See below for newsletter from a local politician and the latest actions from your competitor. Clearly there are other’s out there who believe a service is needed..

has anyone, either this operator or any of their customers, any thoughts on this?

    ” Dear Constituent,

I write to update you on a number of issues in relation to my discussions with Dublin Bus and the Department of Transport.

    Swords 41X

Many Swords commuters will be aware of the request by Dublin Bus to the Department of Transport for use of the Port tunnel. Swords Express were granted a new license for a route from the Pavilions Shopping Centre to Burgh Quay.

I have had numerous meetings with Dublin Bus in recent weeks and I suggested that Dublin Bus seek permission for peak times services on routes that do not conflict with Swords Express namely:

    1. Swords Manor/ Glen Ellan via Little Chef/Holywell Distributor Road and on to the M1 motorway
    2. River Valley via Boroimhe/ Airside/ Holywell and on to the M1 motorway

I have asked the Department of Transport to grant the above new route license application urgently”

RE: “08.00hrs ex Swords changes to 07.55hrs”

I am confused by theses timetable updates. Does ‘ex Swords’ mean buses going TO Swords or coming FROM Swords.

    Cheers

There is no news on the new route licence.

It is good to hear that local representatives are trying to get a better transport service for Dublin. I look forward to hearing from the local politician you are talking about - we haven’t heard from them yet -. What use is a peak-only service? Swords needs an all-day service, not just a service for 3 hours on weekdays. What is really needed is an integrated plan to provide a bus service to all the people of Swords.

Swords Express is the only company which is actually delivering and doing something to improve transport in Swords.

Vinny you asked for a comment on the politician’s statement above and I would like to add my view point. I am a resident of Rivervalley who travels into town on the 41X every week day to work with my 20 month old son in his buggy. I realise the Swords Express are offering a much needed service but it is not suitable for everyone. As I live in Rivervalley and travel cross city to St. Stephens Green to get the Swords Express would add an 80 minute walk to my day in the wind/rain and occasional sunshine (with buggy & bags in tow). I would also have to fold the buggy and store it in the underneath baggage area on the coach making the driver have to get off to put it in and take it out. I believe it can be quite difficult to get on at Airside due to busy buses. I also have a Dublin Bus yearly ticket which if I give up now I would not get a refund so I would be paying twice for every journey! When the 41X was travelling through the tunnel it saved us up to 40 mins every morning. For these reasons among others we want the 41X to be allowed to use the tunnel again, but the Department has decided that as they would be in competition with the Swords Express they won’t allow it.
Many of us have been in contact with local politicians to try and sort this out.
Admin I respect your acknowledgement that “What is really needed is an integrated plan to provide a bus service to all the people of Swords” as obviously neither service provider is providing a suitable service for all. I would however disagree that Swords Express is the only company actually doing something to improve transport in Swords, as Dublin Bus have lodged at least three applications to the Department of Transport but they have been refused each time.
I have used the Swords Express a couple of times, but can only do this on half days etc for the reasons mentionned above and have found it to be a very enjoyable experience.
There seems to be enough business for all from Swords so we cannot accept that Dublin Bus should not be allowed use the tunnel.
Sorry for the long post but it is a very important issue.
    Kind Regards

the license is issued on a first come basis.

You have to ask yourself why did Dublin Bus not have the brains to apply in the first place to ensure they got in there before competition

Dublin Bus is a shambles, if properly run they would of secured the license in the first place.

The last week has been a bit hit and miss with the service from the City to Swords, with buses not arriving at all at peak times never mind just being late.

Last Thursday 27th November, there was no bus between 16:40 and 17:20. Needless to say that there were a lot of people left behind after a bus finally did arrive.

Why does there only seem to be one bus between 17:05 and 17:20 enen though there are two on the timetable? Even one of the drivers was asking how long people had been waiting for a bus, and he seemed surprised there was such a gap.

Other than that I can’t fault the service. Thank you for Swords Express!
