Valentine’s Day (14th) is renowned as the most romantic day of the year, and thanks to Galantines day (13th) it is no longer depressing for singletons as this is the official day to celebrate friendships. Love it or loath it - you can’t avoid it, this is the week of love and while both dates may have fallen on a work day that won’t stop us wanting to share the love at the weekend. Afterwork Friday is also referred to as Valentines Friday at the Writes Café as they promise patrons live music and a complimentary drink of Cointreau pink fizz to celebrate the day of love. Perfect for couples and those in search of a new love!

Puppy Love

Not quite based in Swords, but definitely worth a mention . . . Dogs Trust is hosting this family-friendly educational event and those attending are invited to create their very own sock puppet and Valentine’s day cards for the dogs on their arts and crafts table. As well as a behind-the-scenes tour you will enjoy some Valentine’s day treats and the premiere of Shakespaw In Love! Puppies and helping a good cause – what’s not to love?!? Tickets €5 per person or €18 for a family.

Afternoon Love

There’s nothing more enjoyable at the weekend than plonking yourself down in a lovely relaxing venue and pouring yourself the perfect cup of tea while choosing which delicacy to eat first! You can make your afternoon tea sparkle with a glass of Prosecco at Roganstown Hotel & Country Club who deliver the level of quality that you would expect for such an occasion. It’s reasonably priced at €28 per person, add on an extra fiver for the glass of bubbly. Booking is essential and easy to do on their website.

For a more traditional Valentine's, check out The Old Schoolhouse bringing live music to Swords that includes 3 Men and a Fiddle on Friday followed by Arthur on Saturday – both guarantee great craic for all!
